C<\/span>elebrated for the incandescent power of her voice, electrifying stage presence, and her fearless immersion in some of opera\u2019s most demanding and multifaceted characters, Canadian soprano Ambur Braid has emerged as one of the defining artists of her generation. <\/span>A succession of<\/span> major role debuts in recent seasons has cemented her reputation as a\u00a0performer\u00a0of exceptional dramatic intensity, compelling artistry, and\u00a0<\/span>vocal brilliance.<\/span><\/p>\n

In collaboration with director Barrie Kosky<\/strong>, Braid has forged an extraordinary series of career-defining performances. <\/span>Together, they have brought to life some of the most formidable characters of the dramatic soprano repertoire<\/span>;<\/span> from <\/span>Braid\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0breakthrough as Salome<\/em> at Oper Frankfurt<\/strong> under Joana Mallwitz, to her\u00a0searing\u00a0Katerina Ismailova in\u00a0<\/span>Lady Macbeth of <\/span>Mtsensk<\/span><\/em>\u00a0for <\/span>Komische<\/span><\/strong> Oper Berlin<\/strong> under James Gaffigan, and an unforgettable Die <\/span>F\u00e4rberin<\/span> in\u00a0<\/span>Die Frau <\/span>ohne<\/span><\/em> Schatten<\/em>,\u00a0<\/span>conducted by\u00a0<\/span>Klaus M\u00e4kel\u00e4,\u00a0<\/span>marking<\/span> her<\/span> Festival <\/span>d\u2019Aix<\/span>–<\/span>en<\/span><\/strong>-Provence<\/strong> debut.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the many highlights that have d<\/span>istinguished<\/span> her recent seasons are <\/span>Marie <\/span>in <\/span>Wozzeck<\/span><\/em> for both Op\u00e9ra <\/strong><\/span>National <\/span><\/strong>de Lyon<\/strong> and Canadian Opera Company<\/strong>, Bianca in Tobias Kratzer\u2019s<\/span> bold reimagining<\/span> of Zemlinsky\u2019s <\/span>Eine <\/span>florentinische<\/span> Trag\u00f6die<\/span> for Staatsoper Hamburg<\/strong><\/span><\/em> under Karina Canellakis<\/span>, Die <\/span>F\u00e4rberin<\/span> in Mariusz <\/span>Treli\u0144ski\u2019s<\/span> new production of <\/span>Die Frau <\/span>ohne<\/span> Schatten<\/span><\/em> for Op\u00e9ra<\/strong><\/span> National<\/span><\/strong> de Lyon<\/strong> under Daniele Rustioni<\/span>, and Rachel in <\/span>La <\/span>Juive<\/span><\/em> for <\/em>Oper Frank<\/em>furt<\/strong> \u2013 recently released on Naxos \u2013 where her luminous soprano and commanding dramatic artistry drew widespread critical acclaim. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since first captivating audiences as Strauss\u2019 enigmatic heroine, Braid has made Salome<\/em> one of the signature roles of her career. Hailed by <\/span>Bachtrack<\/span> as \u201cborn to play Salome\u201d, her interpretation continues to attract international attention. Her first commercial recording with Orquesta <\/strong><\/span>Sinf\u00f3nica<\/span> de <\/span>Miner\u00eda<\/span><\/strong> under Alexander Prior is forthcoming, and she recently brought the role to the screen in Atom Egoyan\u2019s film Seven Veils<\/span>, starring Amanda Seyfried, set within Canadian Opera Company<\/strong>\u2019s production of the work. Following critically acclaimed performances in Frankfurt, Hamburg<\/strong>, and Toronto<\/strong>, she returns to the role this season at Op\u00e9ra National de Lyon<\/strong> in a highly anticipated new production by Calixto Bieito, conducted by Constantin Trinks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Further highlights of the upcoming season include <\/span>Braid’s debut with The Cleveland Orchestra<\/strong> as Die <\/span>F\u00e4rberin<\/span> under Music Director Franz Welser-M\u00f6st<\/strong>, followed by the North American premiere of Brett <\/span>Dean’s<\/span> Of<\/span> One Blood<\/span><\/em> at Santa Fe Opera<\/strong>, where she makes her role debut as Elizabeth I in Claus Guth’s production, conducted by Adam Hickox.<\/span> Further expanding her international presence, she debuts at Vienna\u2019s historic <\/span>Theater<\/span><\/strong> an der Wien<\/strong> as Senta in\u00a0<\/span>Der <\/span>fliegende<\/span> Holl\u00e4nder<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/span>in a new staging by Phillip St\u00f6lzl conducted by Robert Jindra.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
