Renowned for her psychologically vivid portrayals and incandescent vocal power, Canadian soprano Ambur Braid continues to affirm her place among the most compelling dramatic sopranos of her generation. The 2025\/26 season marks another defining chapter in Braid\u2019s career with two role debuts that promise to be milestones in her arsenal of dramatic interpretations – as Katerina Ismailova (<\/span>Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk<\/em>)<\/span>in a new staging by\u00a0Barrie Kosky for Komische Oper Berlin<\/strong> and conducted by James Gaffigan, and as Bianca in Tobias Kratzer\u2019s new setting of\u00a0Zemlinsky\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>Eine florentinische Trag\u00f6die<\/span><\/em>for Staatsoper Hamburg<\/strong> under Karina Canellakis.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Described as \u201cborn to play Salome\u201d (Bachtrack, 2023), Braid\u2019s portrayal of the role continues to be a cornerstone of her repertoire.\u00a0Following acclaimed performances in Frankfurt and Toronto, Ambur sings Dimitri Tcherniakov\u2019s <\/span>Salome<\/span> for Staatsoper Hamburg<\/strong> this season\u00a0and will also record the work with Orquesta Sinfonica de Mineria<\/strong> under Alexander Prior, marking her first commercial release in the role. Elsewhere, her recent debuts as<\/span>Marie (<\/span>Wozzeck<\/em>)<\/span>, Die F\u00e4rberin\u00a0(<\/span>Die Frau ohne Schatten<\/em>)<\/span>,\u00a0Senta\u00a0(<\/span>Der fliegende Holl\u00e4nder<\/span><\/em>), Eva (Schreker\u2019s\u00a0<\/em><\/span>Irrelohe<\/em>)<\/span>, Madame Lidoine (<\/span>Dialogues des Carm\u00e9lites<\/em>),<\/span>Rachel (<\/span>La Juive<\/span><\/em>), and\u00a0Stephana\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>Giordanno\u2019s<\/span>Siberia<\/em>)<\/span>have further demonstrated her vocal stamina and dramatic versatility.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the concert platform in recent seasons Ambur has appeared at <\/span>T<\/span><\/strong>anglewood Festival<\/strong> with <\/span>the <\/span>Gulbenkian Orchestra<\/strong> in Beethoven\u2019s Symphony No. 9<\/em> under Hannu Lintu, and with Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra<\/strong>\u00a0conducted by Alain Altinoglu in Schmitt\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>La Trag\u00e9die de Salom\u00e9<\/span><\/em>. She made her debut appearance at the 2025 Spoleto Festival<\/strong> in Rufus Wainwright\u2019s<\/span> Hadrian<\/span><\/em>under Johannes Debus and makes her debut appearance at MITO SettembreMusica<\/strong> with a programme of Strauss and Samy Moussa.<\/span><\/p>\n

A former ensemble member of Oper Frankfurt<\/strong> and alumna of the Canadian Opera Company<\/strong> Studio, Braid holds degrees from Glenn Gould School<\/strong> and San Francisco Conservatory<\/strong>. Her artistry continues to be defined by fearless dramatic choices, vocal brilliance, and a deep commitment to the emotional truth of every role she inhabits.<\/span><\/p>\n
